$5000 Prize for LOC/Corning Pioneer to be presented at MicroTAS in Korea

Nominations for the 2009 Pioneers of Miniaturisation Award are now welcome from early to mid-career scientists.
This award is for extraordinary or outstanding contributions to the understanding or development of miniaturised systems.
This will be judged mainly through their top 1 -- 3 papers and/or an invention documented by patents/or a commercial product.
Awards and honorary memberships may also be considered. See link below for full details.

The MicroTAS 2009 conference announces the Art Award for the best image.
Must contain a caption describing the scientific merit of the featured item.
Must be submitted and (co)authored by a TAS 2009 Conference attendee.
Must be submitted in a high resolution digital format.

All images need to be original artwork produced by the submitting participant at uTAS and available for publication on the cover of Lab on a Chip (in any format) without payment of royalties or fees of any kind. All images need to be of greater than 600 dpi resolution and sized to fit the cover of Lab on a Chip ((21cm wide by 18cm high).

 
 
 
 
The MicroTAS 2009 Conference announces the Best Poster Award Competition to recognize excellence among its participants. The Review Committee will select the best three (3) presented posters from the poster session and all posters will be reviewed for these honors.
 
 
The MicroTAS 2009 Conference announces the Widmer Poster Award Competition to recognize excellence among its participants. A review committee will select the best-presented poster from the poster session and all presented posters will be reviewed for this honor.

 
 

Dr. Jongyoon Han, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Department of Biological Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is the recipient of the 2009 Analytical Chemistry Young Innovator Award. This award, sponsored by the journal, Analytical Chemistry and the Chemical and Biological Microsystems Division (CBMS), recognizes the contributions of an individual who has demonstrated exceptional technical advancement and innovation in the field of micro- or nanofluidics in his or her early career.

Having published in Analytical Chemistry, the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nano Letters, Langmuir, and Macromolecules, Dr. Han¡¯s research is mainly concentrated in applying micro/nanofabrication techniques to biological problems, more specifically proteomic sample preparation and detection. His other scientific interests are nanofluidic transport behaviors, molecular sieving and filtration, and electrokinetics. Dr. Han is the recipient of various awards including National Science Foundation Career Award, Karl Van Tassell Career Development Professorship, and Louis D. Smullin Prize for Teaching Excellence.
